One Last Run

For those of you who have been out here- you know exactly why we look like this. For the rest of you, my Grandpa and Dad built the world's best water-slide about 15 years ago. It is made out of a large section of rubber belting and is about 115 feet long. We go down using inner tubes and on this sled we can go together. This slide is used in the summer as well as in the winter and the entertainment it has provided us is immeasurable.

A couple of days ago Amy and I realized that we had taken our last run down the slide and hadn't even known it so...

On September 22 at 10:30 am with Grandpa watching from the window we took not one but two runs down the slide into the icey water below. It was great and will be a memorie we will cherish.

We sure will miss this place.

I'm so glad you took one last run!!
I've been praying for you and the family all day today - with the moving and big changes ahead. When told that Grampa Wally and Gramma Shirley were moving...Andy, Billy and Cassandra all said "But what about the Slide!??" You have so many good memories from Elbow Lake to take with you. Blessings to you, Christie, and the rest of the gang. Give Wally and Shirley a big hug from the Eerdmans! Margie E.

I'm a college and seminary classmate of your grandpa and I'm continueing to pray for him and all of the family. He is a really great guy and servant of Jesus. Thanks for your blog with pictures. My wife and I were in Cook for the 100th anniversary and got to touch base with your Grandma and Grandpa. We are so glad for that. Your grandparents know me by my nickname "Toad".

What a wonderful time with your family - isn't it great to have people to be silly with?

I know how many wonderful memories you have of your time at the lake. I'm happy you were able to make a few more great ones.

I hope the transition continues to go smoothly!

Love ya!

I'm laughing out loud looking at all your pictures! Some of my best times growing up are out there. I admit, I'm kinda a wimp so there were some scary moments too :) I'm sure your Grandpa is enjoying you and Amy giggling around the house there.

Love you all!!!

I'm with Holly, I was always a wimp too when it came to that slide. The idea of plunging into a lake, next to the shoreline just seemed a little crazy to me. But then again everything that you said I had to try was a little bit crazy.

Sending my love to all of you.

Christie,
Thank you so very much for sharing what is happening in your family in such a personal way. The tears are rolling down my cheeks as I read your tender and loving words about all your family is going through.(I told you that you have a give for writing!) You all inspire me with your genuine love, faith, and caring. You know how much we love your grandparents, as well. I know my dad thinks of your grandpa as his best friend and his brother in Christ. We often marvel at their fun relationship! As with so many other people, Wally and Shirley have had a huge impact on our lives over all these years at Elbow Lake. It will never be quite the same without them there.
I am praying every day for all of you. Your actions and love continue to shine for Christ and witness to his glory! I am in awe...Love, Debbie Johnson and the rest of the Lindgren crew
P.S. You are always welcome at our cabin...we don't have a water slide, but we do have fun!

To Christy (and the rest of the Shermer/Olson family) I have so many wonderful memories of spending time with you and your family at your grandparents house. One of the highlights of going up to the Elbow lake cabin when we were younger was always that there was the possibility that you all would be up there and we might get to go down the water slide! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family at this time.

God Bless

Been down that water slide a time or two myself. The water must have been really cold!!! Glad to see a picture of all of you. The lake won't seem the same without the Olson Clan. Say hi to your Grandparents and parents for me, you are all in my prayers. Love Diana Lindgren Lundquist
